Benny is a small, tract-like flip book that fits comfortably in the viewer’s hand. It is based on a found photo of televangelist Benny Hinn at one of his televised church services. As the viewer flips through the book, they “pan” through the image; when they get to the last page, they can turn the book upside down and continue panning through the image on the reverse pages.
The extremely close-up images are grainy, saturated, and pixelated. They are almost painterly and each is beautiful on its own. As the viewer encounters the book, they are pulled between abstraction and figuration, sometimes finding the figures, sometimes losing them in the colours and shapes.
